Using Spreadsheets in the Classroom

The activity I looked at was an activity asked the question, "Do bigger pumpkins have more seeds?" Students got into groups and the estimated which pumpkin would have the highest number of seeds. After they were done estimating they carved out their pumpkins and laid the seeds out so that they could count them. Each group was then allowed on the computer with the spreadsheet to put in their data. At the end they were allowed to see all the data from everyone's sheets and weather their estimates were correct.

This would be a great activity for a young classroom (3rd or 4th grade). I think that the highest grade level you could use this with would probably be 5th grade, but there would need to be some modifications. Instead of just putting down which pumpkin was biggest, students would need to put down what the weight and circumference of the pumpkin was. This would allow them more accurate guesses and also more information to work with.
